Make sure you feed your wife these foods during her pregnancy

Posted on 24 October 2012

If your wife is expecting, you know that you want to do all that you can to keep her healthy during those nine months. In addition to telling her that she shouldn't smoke or drink alcohol, it's also important to help make sure she is keeping her body in tip-top shape by getting enough essential vitamins and minerals.

However, if you're like any dad-to-be, you've got a lot on your mind. Not only do you have to shower her with baby gifts and help set up the nursery, you're also expected to go with her to her doctor appointments.

That's a lot to handle and so advising your wife on what foods are best for may seem complicated. Luckily, FoxNews.com published a guide that will help ensure that you help her make good food choices:

1)  Eggs
Eggs contain a lot of iron and protein have tons of choline, which is crucial in brain development. They're also low in calories. Because cholesterol isn't a major concern during your wife's pregnancy, it's perfectly acceptable for you to whip her up an omelette in the morning.

2) Lentils
You'll find that, as your wife's pregnancy progresses, she'll become more and more hungry. In order to help her satisfy her appetite, serve her some lentils. Not only are they loaded with calcium, amino acids and zinc, these legumes can also ease constipation.

3) Salmon
Many couples who are expecting often wonder if it is okay for the future mom to consume fish. Turns out that eating salmon twice a week can raise the levels of omega-3 fatty acids in the baby, which is essential for healthy eye and brain development.
